When I was in school, 4th grade was an exciting year because you could join band. Once a week, the band director would come to the elementary school and the band students were released from class for an hour or so for group music lessons. In our current school district, kids don't start band until they go to middle school, in 7th grade. They do, however, have music classes once a week for half of the year in elementary school (The other half of the year they have art.) and in 4th grade they learn to play the recorder.
Bryce's class had their recorder concert a few weeks ago. Despite having to suffer the injustice of using a hand-me-down recorder (that's what you get for being the baby of the family) Bryce did a very nice job. Here he is showing off his mad skills at home and at the concert:
