Tate Farms

Fall Break meant another trip to Tate Farms to pick pumpkins and kick off autumn. The kids were really looking forward to our annual trip, but I had doubts about the weather. (We have had sooo much rain here lately. In September we had 14 days of rain and so far in October we have had 11.) Instead of a whole week off of school, this year the kids only got Thursday, Friday and Monday off. With other things going on on Thursday and Monday, Friday was our only real chance to get out. Of course, the weather forecast for Friday showed a good chance of thunderstorms.

I waffled all day about whether or not to risk a 30 minute drive and crazy admission fee under a 70% chance of rain. The farm didn't open until 2pm and the rain was predicted to start anytime between 2pm and 5pm. In the end, I couldn't take all the pleading from the kids and decided anything was better than having to listen to my kids beg to "please lets just try to go" one more time. So at 1:30 we loaded up the car, met up with our brave friends, the Greenfields, and headed out.

We got to the farm just as it was opening, and raced out to the fields so that if the rain started we would at least have had time to get our pumpkins. After the pumpkins were picked and stowed safely in the car, we were able to relax and enjoy the rest of the farm for as long as possible. Amazingly enough, although it was incredibly windy, the rain held off and we were able to enjoy all the farm had to offer. We did the hay maze, jumped in the corn, and spent a lot of time petting the bunnies. Kim took some great pictures, as always, and even got a few shots of my kids. When we'd had our fill of farm fun we packed up and headed home. As we pulled into Madison the heavens opened and the rain fell in buckets. Thank goodness for small blessings!
