Homecoming

Emily's high school had their homecoming last week.  Thursday evening was their parade.  This is the first high school homecoming parade we have been to since Natalie has always been excused from marching with her band in their parades. (Marimbas are kind of hard to push down the street.)  The cheerleaders rode on top of a fire truck and Emily had a blast waving and cheering and tossing candy.

Brandon got to participate this year too.  The middle school band walked along the parade route behind the high school band and he had a good time goofing off with his band buddies.

Of course, for Emily, the highlight of the week was not the game but the dance.  It was her first formal dance and she was super excited.  She and a group of her girlfriends were planning on going together.  They spent all day getting beatified then went out for a 'nice dinner' at Chick-fil-A.  Naturally, this little group of debutantes was a bit hit at a fast food joint on a Saturday night.    The manager even came out and took their picture and put it on the restaurant's Facebook page.

After dinner, they came to our house where they hung out for a while waiting for the dance to start and, of course, took pictures.

The dance itself was rather anticlimactic.  To quote Emily, "It was a big grindfest." The girls stayed long enough say hello to friends and admire everyone's dresses and then they went back home and watched a movie.  It was a big production for only about 45 minutes at the actual dance, but Emily said she felt like princess, so I guess it was all worth it.
