ThirTEEN

Today one of Mark's worst fears has been realized. We have a teenage daughter.

We had the official celebration yesterday so that Natalie's friend Mary could join us. We went to the movies to see G-Force in 3D and then had homemade pizza, Natalie's favorite meal, for dinner. Natalie wanted carrot cake with whipped cream frosting for her cake (yes, really!) and she decorated it herself. She spent all morning creating hand-drawn laminated wolf characters as toppers and then sprinkled the cake with sugar crystals to give it a little sparkle. It looked really cute when she was done.

Since Mark and I had already chipped in to help Natalie buy herself the Nintendo DSi she had been saving for, she was surprised to see that we had gotten her another present. She was even more surprised when she tore off the paper and saw a cell phone! She hadn't asked for it, but we figured she couldn't really call herself a teenager without one. Plus, I was tired of lending her mine when she went out on her various activities. Emily, who has been begging for a phone for over a year was a little jealous, but she handled it with remarkable dignity. (The look on her face says it all!)

Happy Birthday, my amazing, talented, Nat!

Happy Birthday, Natalie! Welcome to the wonderful world of teenagers, Mom and Dad!

Can I give Natalie some advice from your friendly neighborhood middle school office worker? PLEASE don't bring your cell phone to school... and if you have to, keep it locked up in your locker! We have cell phones either lost or stolen every day, and since kids aren't supposed to have phones at school, finding lost/stolen ones is not a priority. Now, with all that said... enjoy your phone!!

Welcome to the world of teenagers. Though I have to admit I am glad that we have started out slow having a boy first.
