After two-and-a-half grueling days of school the kids got yesterday afternoon and today off of school due to inclement weather. Snow day! Or maybe "cold-day" or "ice-day" would be more appropriate terms, since we really didn't get too much accumulation. But it has been bitterly cold. I am afraid that our poor heater is going to have a stroke. It has been running constantly for days just to keep us above 60 degrees and last night it started making horrible screeching noises outside our bedroom window. (Screaming in protest?) Yesterday I ran the self-cleaning cycle on the oven just to help warm things up a bit (plus the oven really did need it).
Snow is a big deal ar

ound here and all it takes is the threat of flakes to shut everything down. So, with a 70% chance of 1-2 inches of snowfall Thursday afternoon, the all the schools closed at lunch time. The local newscasters faced quite a dilemma because the "bizzard" occurred at the same time as the big Alabama-Texas football game and stations didn't know which was more important to cover. I got a kick out of our local talk radio station making hourly pledges during their news segments that they would not interrupt game coverage for weather news unless "lives were at stake."

The snow warmed things up just a bit (30's instead of the 'teens) and the kids had a great time playing in the flurries all afternoon. Brandon, Bryce and the neighborhood boys decided that they would build an igloo and spent hours scraping together enough snow from all the driveways, lawns and trampolines in the cul-de-sac to build a pile of snow just big enough for one person to squeeze into. They used brooms and snow shovels to scrape the snow into plastic bins and then collected it on the side of our driveway. I was really surprised to see how much they were able to get. At 9am this morning, in 10 degree weather, they were all out there again, trying to make the igloo bigger.
The girls had fun in

the snow yesterday but only ventured out long enough this morning to have a few pictures taken. They did, however, decide that Harry needed to get a taste of the snow and took the cat outside for a while. I don't think Harry enjoyed it.

The snow and i

ce have been a fun change of pace but have really made us look forward to spring and getting to finally see all of our new landscaping start to bloom. We are so ready for some warmth.

When I heard the national weather forecast I was wondering if you guys would get some snow also. It looks like Madison received some snow powdering after all. We have not really seen the sun or blue sky in more than 2 weeks now and it can get pretty depressing. Friday late afternoon the high fog cleared and the sun was out for about 45 minutes tops just before sunset.
