Natalie had her spring band concert last night. Every year the band directors honor one woodwind, one brass player, and one percussionist as being outstanding players, and this year the Wind Ensemble's Outstanding Percussionist award went to . . . Natalie Petrucka. Natalie is one of only two 8th grade percussionists in Wind Ensemble (all the rest are 9th graders) so it was a really big deal for her to win. She was literally bouncing when she went up to accept her trophy.
I am posting two songs from the concert. Natalie is playing bells and xylophone in both songs. The first one is called Black Wolf Run. It is one of the songs they performed a few weeks ago at Festival Disney in Orlando. They got all superior ratings and won 2nd place--edged out by their in-town rival, Discovery Middle School. The second song is Bohemian Rhapsody. At the end they had a "surprise" of two of the kids playing electric guitar, but the amp wasn't working correctly and so you can only hear the guitar on the last note. Once they got the amp working they replayed part of the song with the guitars and it sounded cool, but I didn't record it.

It is nice to get an award that was hoped for but it is even better to receive recognition when we least expect it, those are the best. Congratulations Natty!
