Rainy 4th

The Fourth of July isn't high on my list of favorite holidays.  It's not that I dislike it, I just don't find it all that exciting.  I mean, I enjoy going to picnics or cookouts or hanging out with friends, but I don't really look forward to it, and fireworks are fun but we haven't done them in years, ever since finding out that they weren't legal within city limits.  (A couple of years ago we tried going to one of the city fireworks shows, but it was so crowded that I didn't really enjoy that at all.) For the past several years, we have just spent a couple of hours at the party on the plantation and called it good, but this year we had to come up with a different plan because it rained all day long.

This wasn't just your on again and off again sprinkles either, it was constant, steady rainfall.  Some parts of the county recorded 9 inches of rain.  (Check out our flooded backyard.)

Since both the planned party and grilling hamburgers for dinner were out, we had to come up with something else to do, and that something ended up being a Korra marathon.  We ran to the store for lots of junk food and spent the entire afternoon and evening watching all the episodes of the cartoon series "The Legend of Korra" back to back as a family.  And since we were watching Korra, we decided to have Chinese food for dinner to stay in character.  Surprisingly, Panda Express was not very busy at 6pm on the Fourth of July. (haha) It was a rather unorthodox way to spend Independence Day, but we had a great time.
