Emily was in Orlando last week competing at the National High School Cheerleading Championship. This competition, held at DisneyWorld, is the biggest in the country and is televised on ESPN every year. Last year, Emily's school, James Clemens High School, came in fourth and this year they thought had a good shot at winning.
Early Sunday morning I got a text from Emily telling me that they had not done very well followed by another text just two hours later from a now very excited Emily saying that they had won! So, either she was just super critical of their performance or the other teams must have really messed up.
The winning teams receive white champions' jackets which Emily has been wearing everywhere for the last week. She had a blast strutting around Disney at the after party and being treated like a celebrity. The school bus the cheerleaders were riding home from the airport in even got a police escort back to the high school.
