But excitement isn't the only emotion some of us were experiencing as the reality of donning our swimwear and showing all our stuff in public began to creep in. Mark, especially, was feeling the effects of nearly 40 years of pizza and brownies hanging over his belt buckle. In fact, he was so concerned over his middle-aged physique, that it drove him to insanity--literally.
On the recommendation of some friends at work, Mark has started a 2 month long torture session called the Insanity Workout. And believe me, after seeing the program, it is aptly named.
Last week the kids decided that they would try working out along with Dad one evening. The four of them were so cute that I had to get a picture. (I kindly left a half-dead Mark out of the shot. He was behind the couch on the hardwood floor so that the lake of sweat he produced wouldn't ruin our carpet--Isn't he so thoughtful.) Bryce only lasted a minute or two, but Brandon and Natalie did surprisingly well. Natalie was actually the only one who completed the whole 45 minute workout without stopping. Mark will be quick to point out that she wasn't doing the moves with as much intensity as he was, but she must have done enough because she was sore for three days after.
While it is still too early to tell how successful Mark will be with this program, he sure is getting a lot of encouragement from the kids. Tonight at dinner Bryce prayed to "help Daddy get in shape for the beach." How could you fail after that?

You guys are going to have so much fun at the beach! We have rented several beach houses on St. George island for family reunions and they are always a BLAST!
First of all...the pool of sweat comment had me snorting my water in laughter.
Second...a good friend of mine is doing Insanity to get in shape for a thing this summer. She's loving it as it slowly kills her. :)
LOL!! Shawn does the same thing every now and again. Nothing in between, just hardcore workout to get rid of the gut, then back to eating salty snacks. Good Luck to your hubby!
Yikes.. those kids has grown so much! And I agreed, I need exercise to look good for beach.. Yeah, right..
Great for Mark- I am sure he can do it! But can the rest of us agree to just all be flabby and pasty white? It would be so much less stressful that way.
